Police officers in Brahmanbaria have arrested Zakir Hossain, the incumbent chairman of Borail Union Parishad under Nabinagar upazila. The arrest took place on Sunday afternoon during a targeted law enforcement operation conducted in Borail village, located within the upazila.
Hossain, a prominent local political figure who currently serves as the president of the banned Borail Union Awami League unit, has held the position of Union Parishad chairman for a considerable tenure. Despite his official duties as a local representative, he has recently faced mounting legal challenges connected to various allegations and criminal cases lodged at the local police station.
According to police records, Hossain is named as an accused in multiple cases involving political unrest and other offences. An arrest warrant had been outstanding against him in connection with at least one of these ongoing cases, prompting law enforcement agencies to track his movements over recent weeks.
Acting on a precise tip-off indicating that the suspect was present in his home locality, a special team from Nabinagar Police Station initiated a raid in Borail village. Officers moved swiftly to apprehend Hossain before he could evade custody, ensuring the operation concluded without incident.
Nabinagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Morshedul Alam Chowdhury confirmed the details of the operation, stating that the arrest was executed directly on the basis of the court-issued warrant. He noted that law enforcement personnel had been actively seeking Hossain’s whereabouts to enforce the judicial order.
Following his arrest, Hossain was taken into police custody, where standard preliminary procedures and documentation were completed. Authorities confirmed that the accused remains detained at the station and will be formally produced before the Brahmanbaria Judicial Magistrate Court on Monday morning, where judicial proceedings regarding his custody will continue.
