Police have recovered the hanging body of a 31-year-old female nail artist from her residence in the capital’s Bailey Road area, following an apparent suicide triggered by prolonged marital discord.
The deceased has been identified as Jeba Adiba, daughter of Abul Ahsan, originally hailing from the New Eskaton neighbourhood in Dhaka’s Hatirjheel police district. Officers from Ramna Police Station retrieved her body at around 11:00 am on Monday, 10 August, from an apartment located along the KFC alley of Bailey Road. Following mandatory legal procedures, police dispatched the body to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue on Monday evening for an autopsy.
Police acted on an emergency phone call placed to the national helpline service, 999, which alerted local law enforcement to an unresponsive woman inside the flat. Upon reaching the scene, officers found Adiba hanging from a ceiling fan inside her room.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman of Ramna Police Station, who led the initial response team, confirmed that preliminary enquiries point towards severe mental distress stemming from unresolved domestic disputes. Investigating officers revealed that prior to hanging herself, Adiba is believed to have ingested rat poison earlier in the morning.

“Initial findings suggest she was suffering from deep mental depression due to persistent domestic disputes. However, whether there are any other underlying factors behind her death can only be confirmed once we receive the post-mortem report and conclude our investigation.”

Law enforcement officials confirmed that formal legal proceedings have commenced, and further inquiries will continue alongside forensic examination of the scene to rule out any foul play.
