Bangladesh’s national cricket squad is mentally and physically primed for their upcoming two-match Test series against Australia, following intensive conditioning and specialized fielding drills, fielding coach Ashiqur Rahman Mazumder has confirmed.
Speaking via an official video statement distributed by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Ashiq highlighted the squad’s steady technical progression and relentless work ethic, particularly in adapting to the demanding nuances of long-format Test cricket.
The coaching staff focused heavily on sharpening catch conversion rates in key defensive zones, ensuring the team is ready to capitalize on limited opportunities under Australian conditions.
According to Ashiq, training sessions were structured to simulate high-pressure match scenarios in positions that frequently dictate the outcome of a Test match.
“The players are making daily strides and working exceptionally hard, especially in the Test format. We placed extra emphasis on crucial field positions—practicing slip catches, high lofted catches, and coverage at deep fine leg and deep square leg. Alhamdulillaah, the boys executed their drills brilliantly.”

The coaching management stressed that a sole warm-up fixture held ahead of the Test series proved immensely beneficial. The practice match allowed players to adjust to the steeper bounce, faster outfield pace, and unique atmospheric conditions typical of Australian venues.
Ashiq noted that having spent considerable time in the country ahead of the main series gave the squad ample opportunity to acclimate fully. He reiterated that adaptabilities—both technical and environmental—are paramount when touring overseas.
Test cricket demands sustained concentration over extended passages of play, where long stretches of quiet play can be interrupted by a single match-defining moment. Addressing this challenge, Ashiq expressed complete confidence in the squad’s psychological readiness.
Fielding strategy has been anchored on turning half-chances into clear dismissals. In five-day cricket, where opportunities can be rare, sharp alertness on the field often separates competitive teams from winning ones.
