The condition of the eight-year-old rape victim from Magura has further deteriorated after she suffered two cardiac arrests this morning, according to a member of the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) medical board overseeing her treatment.
The child remains on life support in the paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) at CMH, Dhaka, as doctors continue to fight for her survival.
According to a CMH medical board member, the child suffered prolonged oxygen deprivation to the brain when she was allegedly strangled during the assault. She remained in that condition for hours until she was taken to a hospital at 11:00 am the next day, resulting in severe brain damage.
The child’s mother filed a rape case, leading to the arrest of four individuals: victim’s brother-in-law, her sister’s father-in-law, her sister’s mother-in-law, and her sister’s elder brother-in-law. All four suspects are currently in remand for further investigation.
The child was taken to Magura 250-Bed Hospital in an unconscious state on Thursday at around 11:30 AM by her sister’s mother-in-law. Later that day, she was transferred to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for advanced care and then moved to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) the same night. On Friday night, as her condition worsened, she was placed on life support. By Saturday evening, she was transferred from DMCH to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka.
