The interim government has decided to proceed with Bangladesh’s transition from a Least Developed Country (LDC) to a developing nation, scheduled for November 24, 2026.
The decision was finalized today during a meeting of the advisory council, chaired by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus. The announcement was made by Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam at a press briefing held at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka.
Earlier, the interim government had been considering a delay in the transition, as revealed by Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant (Finance Ministry) Anisuzzaman Chowdhury at a press briefing on Tuesday. However, today’s decision confirms that the process will move forward as planned.
Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said that the Chief Adviser has instructed relevant authorities to begin preparations for post-graduation challenges, ensuring a smooth transition for Bangladesh’s economy and international trade relations.
The LDC graduation marks a significant milestone for Bangladesh, but it also comes with challenges, including the potential loss of trade benefits and concessional financing. The government is now focusing on strategies to mitigate these impacts and strengthen the country’s economic resilience.
