Adviser Sakhawat said the ban will remain in place unless the owners settle all outstanding payments by March 27.

The government has imposed a travel ban on 12 garment factory owners for failing to pay workers’ salaries and bonuses, Brigadier General (retd) M Sakhawat Hossain, adviser to the Ministry of Labour and Employment, said today.

He said the ban will remain in place unless the owners settle all outstanding payments by March 27.

If they make the payments by the deadline, the travel ban will be lifted. Otherwise, the restrictions will continue, he said during a press briefing on the labour situation and wage disbursement held at the Shipping Ministry’s conference room at the Secretariat in Dhaka.

The decision to enforce the travel ban was made jointly by the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Hossain added.
