MORRISTOWN, United States – 5 July 2025 (BSS/AFP): United States President Donald Trump expressed cautious optimism on Friday about the possibility of a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, suggesting that a deal “could be” finalised as early as next week.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, President Trump said he remained “very” hopeful about ongoing negotiations to end the prolonged conflict in the Gaza Strip. However, he tempered expectations by acknowledging the volatility of the situation. “It changes day to day,” he remarked.
Responding to reports that Hamas had reacted positively to recent ceasefire proposals, Trump said: “That’s good. They haven’t briefed me on it yet. We have to get it over with. We have to do something about Gaza.”
While the President did not confirm any formal progress, his remarks suggest that diplomatic momentum may be building ahead of his upcoming talks in Washington, where regional peace efforts are expected to be a key focus.
