Two Schoolgirls Tragically Drown in Cumilla

Cumilla, 22nd July 2025 — Two schoolgirls tragically drowned in a pond at Nagarsharif village, located under Chiora union, within Chouddagram Upazila of Cumilla district this morning. The incident has left the local community in deep sorrow.

Victims Identified

The victims, Fatema Yasmin, aged 9, and Jannatul Ferdous, aged 10, were both students at Latif Sikder Government Primary School. Fatema was in class three, while Jannatul was in class four. They were residents of the same village and were close friends.

Incident Overview

According to local residents, the two young girls went to bathe in a pond near their home around 10:00 AM. As time passed and they failed to return home, their families grew concerned and began searching for them.

After an extensive search, the two girls were eventually found in the pond, unconscious. They were quickly pulled from the water and rushed to a nearby local clinic for medical attention. Unfortunately, despite efforts to save them, the attending doctors at the clinic declared both of them dead.

Police Confirmation

The Officer-in-Charge of Chouddagram Police Station, Mohammad Hilal Uddin Ahmed, confirmed the incident, expressing condolences on behalf of the police department and confirming that further investigations would be conducted.
