A court in Bogura has today handed down a life imprisonment sentence to a man convicted of a murder committed over two decades ago in Shibganj upazila of the district.
The verdict was pronounced by Additional District and Sessions Judge Raju Ahmed this afternoon.

The incident dates back to 1 June 2002, when Azizur Rahman fatally stabbed Anwarul, a local farmer, allegedly due to a long-standing enmity between the two men.
Shortly after the murder, police arrested Azizur and launched an investigation. A charge sheet was subsequently submitted based on the findings.
During the trial, the court heard testimonies from 16 witnesses, all of which were thoroughly reviewed. Upon examining the evidence, the court declared Azizur Rahman guilty of murder.
“The evidence presented and witness testimonies left no doubt about the convict’s guilt,”
said Additional Public Prosecutor Azad Hossain Talukder following the verdict.
The judgement brings closure to a 23-year-old case, reflecting the persistence of the legal system in addressing unresolved crimes and ensuring justice, even after a prolonged delay.
