Seven-Year-Old Boy Killed Crossing Road in Bhola

A seven-year-old boy was killed after being struck by an autorickshaw while attempting to cross a road in Lalmohan upazila of Bhola on Sunday morning.

The accident occurred in front of a local Dakhil madrasa in Ward No. 8 of Paschim Char Umed Union at around the morning hours on 16 August. The child, identified as Mohammad Abdullah, suffered critical head injuries in the collision.

Abdullah was the son of Monir Hossain, from the Hossain Chowmuhani area of Ward No. 9 in Ramaganj Union of the upazila. According to local residents, the boy had been visiting his maternal grandparents’ home in Paschim Char Umed Union.

Witnesses said Abdullah was attempting to cross the road in front of the madrasa when he suddenly ran across the carriageway. At that moment, an autorickshaw travelling along the road struck him. The child fell beneath the vehicle and sustained severe injuries, particularly to his head.

People at the scene quickly came to his aid and rescued him in a critical condition. He was taken to Char Fasson Upazila Health Complex for emergency treatment. However, doctors examined him and declared him dead.

The incident has caused distress among residents in the area, particularly as it occurred near an educational institution where children and pedestrians regularly move around. Roads near schools and madrasas can become particularly hazardous when vehicles pass at speed while children attempt to cross without adequate supervision.

Local residents said greater caution is needed from drivers and pedestrians around busy stretches of road, especially near educational institutions and residential areas. The accident also highlights the vulnerability of young children, who may find it difficult to judge the speed and distance of approaching vehicles while crossing roads.

Lalmohan Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Oliul Islam said police were informed of the accident and officers were sent to the scene. He added that legal procedures were being taken in connection with the incident.

The circumstances surrounding the collision, including the actions of the autorickshaw driver and other relevant factors, are expected to be examined as part of the police investigation. Such investigations are important in determining how the accident occurred and whether any legal responsibility arose from it.

Abdullah’s death has left his family facing a sudden and painful loss. A routine visit to his maternal grandparents’ home ended in tragedy within moments, underscoring the serious risks pedestrians, particularly children, face when crossing roads without adequate protection.
