Two Women Arrested at Chandpur Launch Terminal with Nine Kilos of Cannabis

A special operation conducted by the River Police at Chandpur Launch Terminal resulted in the arrest of two women caught carrying nine kilograms of cannabis in the early afternoon on Sunday. Acting on precise intelligence regarding illicit narcotics movement, officers raided the terminal area at approximately 1:45 pm to intercept the suspects before they could board a river vessel.

The detained individuals were identified as 30-year-old Amena Begum, a native of Lalmohan sub-district in Bhola, and 34-year-old Mosammat Asma, from the Singpara locality of Munshiganj Sadar sub-district.

According to official statements from the River Police, a search conducted at the scene led to the discovery of six kilograms of cannabis concealed in Amena Begum’s possession, while a further three kilograms of the illicit substance were recovered from Asma. Preliminary interrogations revealed that the duo had procured the narcotics consignment from Cumilla and were transporting it via river channels toward Munshiganj for local distribution.

Chandpur Launch Terminal serves as one of the country’s busiest inland river transit hubs, connecting southern coastal districts and central riverine routes. Law enforcement agencies have increasingly noted drug traffickers attempting to exploit river networks to bypass highway checkpoints and transport illegal contraband into surrounding regions.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chandpur River Police Station, Md Azamgir Hossain, confirmed the arrests and stated that formal legal proceedings under the Narcotics Control Act are currently being processed against both suspects. River Police patrols have been reinforced around the terminal gates and pontoon areas to monitor passenger movements and prevent further attempts to smuggle illegal substances through the waterway network.
