A mild earthquake registering a magnitude of 3.0 on the Richter scale struck central parts of Bangladesh in the early hours of Monday, causing brief tremors across the region without resulting in any reported casualties or material damage.
The seismic event occurred precisely at 5:32 AM local time, according to an official bulletin issued by the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD). Scientists at the BMD’s Seismic Observatory identified the epicentre in the Shibpur sub-district, located within the Narsingdi district. The focal point of the earthquake was positioned approximately 47 kilometres north-east of Dhaka, with an estimated hypocentral depth of 10 kilometres beneath the terrestrial surface.
