Three Held in Separate Hili Police Operations

Police in Hakimpur, Dinajpur, have detained three people, including Minhaz Hasan, joint secretary of the newly formed Dinajpur district committee of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League, in two separate operations in Hili.

The arrests were made in the early hours of Monday, 17 August, during raids at the Satkuri railway crossing and Khattamadhabpara areas. Police said one of the operations targeted alleged activities linked to the banned student organisation, while the other was conducted as part of an anti-drug drive.

Minhaz Hasan, a resident of Lohachara village in Hili, is the son of the late Mizanur Rahman. He previously served as general secretary of the Khattamadhabpara union unit of the Chhatra League. According to police, he was detained because of his alleged involvement in attempts to organise members of the banned organisation and activities considered contrary to the government.

The other two detainees, Momin Hossain and Arif Hossain, were arrested on allegations of involvement in drug dealing. Momin is the son of the late Habibur Rahman of Satkuri village in the upazila, while Arif is the son of the late Anis Mia of Ghasuria village.

Hakimpur police station officer-in-charge Zakir Hossain said police operations against people allegedly attempting to reorganise the banned Chhatra League or engage in activities against the government would continue. He said Minhaz was detained as part of that ongoing operation.

The officer also said the two other arrests were made during a separate anti-drug operation. Police would continue efforts to curb drug trafficking and related activities in the area, he added.

The arrests come amid heightened law-enforcement attention towards political and organisational activities involving the Chhatra League following its ban. Police across the country have been conducting operations against individuals accused of attempting to revive organisational activities under the banned platform, while separate drives against narcotics remain a regular part of local policing.

Authorities have not disclosed further details about the specific allegations against the three detainees or whether any case has been formally filed against them. Further legal action is expected to depend on the findings of the police investigation and the evidence gathered during the operations.
