All Looted Arms to Be Recovered Before Polls: Home Adviser

Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has acknowledged that not all weapons looted during the recent mass uprising—alongside other illegal arms—have been recovered yet. However, he expressed optimism that a significant number of these weapons will be retrieved before the upcoming national elections.

He made these remarks on Saturday (26 July), while speaking to the media following his inspection of the Narayanganj District Police Lines.

Recovery of Illegal and Looted Arms

The Home Affairs Adviser stated:

“We are actively working to recover the weapons. While not all have been retrieved yet, our efforts are continuing with the goal of ensuring that the elections proceed in a fair and orderly manner.”

He reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining law and order, especially in the lead-up to the elections, and stressed that the recovery of illegal arms remains a high priority.

Role of the Media and Public Awareness

Addressing journalists, he called on the media to remain truthful and responsible:

“If you broadcast the truth, no one can spread confusion. There’s nothing to be gained by hiding the truth. Some vested interest groups always try to create trouble—everyone must remain vigilant against them.”

In response to a question about political divisions, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury clarified:

“We have no enmity with any political party. Our responsibility is to uphold law and order. Political parties have their own duties—to reach out to the people and seek their vote. We urge them all: do not create instability.”
