Three more individuals have died from symptoms resembling measles across Bangladesh over a recent twenty-four-hour period, according to figures released by the Directorate General of Health Services.
The latest health bulletin, covering the period from 8:00 AM on Friday to 8:00 AM on Saturday, also confirmed that 943 new people fell ill with symptoms linked to the contagious viral infection during the same timeframe.
This brings the cumulative death toll from measles and its associated symptoms to 963 since the beginning of the year. Official records show that among these fatalities, 99 deaths have been directly attributed to confirmed cases of measles, while 864 patients succumbed while presenting with clinical symptoms of the disease.
Geographically, the latest fatalities were concentrated in two regions, with two deaths recorded in the Dhaka division and one in the Khulna division. Health officials identified 57 newly confirmed cases of the virus during the daily reporting window, elevating the nationwide total of confirmed measles cases to 18,853.
In addition to laboratory-confirmed diagnoses, medical practitioners logged another 886 individuals presenting with suspected measles symptoms over the twenty-four-hour cycle. This drives the cumulative tally of suspected infections across the country to 155,678.
The strain on the national healthcare infrastructure remains visible. Since the outbreak’s intensification period began on 15 March, hospitals nationwide have admitted a cumulative total of 136,257 patients exhibiting measles-related symptoms. Of those who sought hospital care, 131,264 individuals have successfully recovered and been discharged to return home.
Public health experts continue to urge families to ensure that children complete their routine immunisations, noting that vaccination remains the most effective defense against the rapid transmission of the virus within communities.
