One Dead and Two Injured as Poultry Van Hits Tree

A fatal road accident on the Barisal-Kuakata highway left one person dead and two others severely injured in the early hours of Sunday, 30 August. The incident occurred around 3:00 am in the Khejurtala area under Dapdapia Union, within Nalchhiti Upazila of Jhalakathi district, when a poultry-laden pickup van veered off the road and collided violently with a roadside tree before overturning.
The deceased has been identified as 40-year-old Md Imran, who worked as the helper of the pickup van. He was the son of the late Momin Uddin, hailing from the Dashmina area of Patuakhali district. Imran died on the spot from the severe impact of the crash. The vehicle’s driver and another passenger suffered critical injuries in the collision.
Local residents were awakened by the sound of the crash and rushed to the scene to assist. Upon discovering the overturned vehicle and the trapped occupants, they immediately alerted law enforcement and emergency services. Officers from Nalchhiti Police Station arrived promptly to secure the area and initiate rescue operations in coordination with local volunteers and highway police.
Rescue teams extracted the victims from the crushed cabin of the pickup van. The two injured individuals were swiftly transported to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMC) for urgent medical treatment, where their conditions remain serious. The body of the deceased was recovered with the assistance of the relevant highway police unit and sent for autopsy procedures.
Confirming the details of the incident, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nalchhiti Police Station, Md Touhiduzzaman, stated that law enforcement responded immediately upon receiving information about the crash. He added that the vehicle involved in the accident has been cleared to ensure normal traffic movement along the highway. Statutory legal proceedings regarding the incident are currently underway as authorities investigate the precise cause of the accident, including potential factors such as driver fatigue or speeding during nighttime transport.
