Two young motorcyclists lost their lives on Tuesday morning following a violent head-on collision on the Dinajpur-Gobindaganj regional highway in the Shialgara area of Gobindaganj upazila, Gaibandha.

The victims were identified as 23-year-old Limon Mia, son of Nazrul Islam from Panchgachhi village, and 30-year-old Rubel Mia, son of Shahin Mia from Chandpara. Both men were operating their respective vehicles when the tragedy unfolded.

According to local eyewitness accounts, the incident occurred at approximately 9:00 AM as both motorcycles attempted to overtake other vehicles at high speed. The riders apparently lost control of their machines during the manoeuvre, resulting in a severe direct impact. The force of the collision left both drivers critically injured on the asphalt, drawing immediate attention from shocked passers-by and local residents who rushed to assist.

Emergency responders quickly transported the injured men to the local upazila health complex. Given the severity of their injuries, medical staff provided basic emergency stabilization before urgently referring them to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura for advanced trauma care. Despite the best efforts of the medical team, both riders succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Sub-Inspector Mashiur Rahman of Gobindaganj Police Station confirmed the fatalities, noting that local law enforcement authorities have initiated standard procedural inquiries regarding the incident.

Road safety remains a critical concern across regional highways in Bangladesh, where mixed traffic, high speeds, and overtaking manoeuvres frequently contribute to serious accidents. Transport authorities and local community leaders continue to urge motorists to exercise caution, adhere strictly to speed limits, and wear certified protective helmets to mitigate the risks associated with daily commuting on busy rural and regional corridors.
