A local official of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in Pirojpur’s Mathbaria upazila has been stripped of all party positions following allegations of moral turpitude and breaches of organizational discipline.
The disciplined official, Md Mehdi Hasan Mamun, served as the General Secretary of the BNP Ward 7 committee in Mathbaria Municipality. His expulsion was formally announced through an official press release issued on Tuesday, 1 September, signed jointly by Mathbaria Municipal BNP President Md Jasim Uddin Faraji and General Secretary Md Mizanur Rahman Mizan.
According to the official communique, Mamun was removed from his posts for participating in activities contrary to party principles. The executive statement strictly instructed all leaders and activists of the Mathbaria Municipal BNP and the Ward 7 unit to sever all organizational ties with him immediately.
The disciplinary action follows the widespread dissemination of an explicit video on social media networks featuring the local politician. The footage triggered extensive public debate and internal concern. However, the precise location, timeframe, and authenticity of the recording remain unverified, and it has not been independently confirmed whether the individual in the footage is indeed Mamun, nor under what circumstances the clip was filmed.
Addressing the controversy, party administrators clarified that the decision was not based solely on the unverified footage. Rather, it came in response to a pattern of grievances and complaints reported across various platforms regarding his personal conduct.
Mathbaria Municipal BNP General Secretary Md Mizanur Rahman Mizan reiterated the leadership’s stance, emphasizing that no individual would be allowed to leverage the party’s platform to indulge in anti-disciplinary actions. He noted that the executive committee evaluated the accumulated complaints thoroughly before deciding to enforce an absolute administrative separation.
The immediate consequence of the decree strips Mamun of any authority or representation within the Mathbaria municipal structure.
