At least three people lost their lives and ten others sustained injuries following a head-on collision between two passenger buses in Mymensingh Sadar upazila on Wednesday evening.
The incident occurred at approximately 6:30 pm in the Alalpur area along the regional highway network.
Two of the deceased have been identified by authorities as Abdul Razzak, son of Hossen Ali from Dhara village in Haluaghat upazila, and 60-year-old Md Tofazzal Hossain from Singheswar village in neighbouring Phulpur upazila. The identity of the third victim remains unconfirmed.
Police officers and eyewitnesses reported that a passenger bus operated by Shyamoli Bangla Paribahan was travelling towards Dhaka when it collided head-on with an oncoming Imam Paribahan bus heading from the capital towards Haluaghat. The impact severely damaged the front sections of both vehicles, causing immediate panic among commuters.
Abdul Razzak died at the scene of the crash due to severe trauma. Local residents quickly gathered to assist in initial rescue efforts alongside emergency service teams. At least ten passengers suffered injuries of varying severity, with six critically injured individuals rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
In-charge of the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital police camp, Md Al Amin, confirmed that attending physicians declared two of the incoming six casualties dead upon arrival. The remaining four injured passengers are currently receiving emergency medical treatment at the facility.
Kotwali Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Shibbirul Islam stated that police units were dispatched immediately to secure the crash site, assist in clearance operations, and restore normal traffic movement along the route. Law enforcement agencies have initiated formal legal proceedings to investigate the precise circumstances surrounding the collision.
