Pakistani Hit ‘Pasoori’ Makes History with One Billion YouTube Views

The viral Pakistani track Pasoori has officially entered the history books, becoming the first music video from Pakistan to surpass one billion views on YouTube. Originally released on Coke Studio Season 14 on 7 February 2022, the mesmerizing duet performed by Ali Sethi and Shae Gill has achieved an unprecedented level of global popularity for a Punjabi-language track, solidifying its place in international pop culture.

Coke Studio celebrated the monumental milestone across its official social media channels, expressing heartfelt gratitude to listeners worldwide whose continuous support propelled the track to this historic target. Combining classic South Asian musical elements with modern, infectious pop beats, the song managed to transcend cultural and linguistic boundaries from the moment it debuted.

Over four years after its initial release, Pasoori maintains incredible momentum across digital platforms. Alongside its massive YouTube numbers, the song has accrued over 405 million streams on Spotify, cementing its position as one of the most played Pakistani tracks in history.

The global phenomenon was evident as early as late 2022, when Google Trends listed Pasoori as the second most searched song globally. It also secured the top spot on Google’s innovative ‘Hum to Search’ feature, proving how persistently audiences were trying to identify its catchy melody.

What sets this achievement apart is its remarkably international reach. Approximately 90 per cent of the song’s total YouTube viewership originated from outside Pakistan, with audiences across more than 60 countries tuning in. This vast foreign listenership has played a transformative role in bringing contemporary Pakistani music into the mainstream global spotlight.

The track’s cultural footprint expanded further when it featured prominently in Marvel Studios’ miniseries Ms. Marvel, introducing it to an even broader Western audience. Capitalizing on this crossover success, Coke Studio Africa later released an official Afrobeats rendition of the track, featuring Ali Sethi alongside artists Marwan Moussa and Reekado Banks. Ultimately, achieving one billion views marks a watershed moment, reshaping how South Asian music is consumed on the world stage.
