Police officers in Rupganj have detained two individuals following a targeted operation targeting illicit arms possession and suspected criminal activity in Narayanganj district.

The raid, conducted on Wednesday night, took place in the Chanpara Rehabilitation Centre area within Rupganj sub-district. Acting on precise intelligence regarding an armed group allegedly preparing to commit violent offences, a patrol team from the local police station intercepted and apprehended the suspects on site.

The detained individuals have been identified as 35-year-old Russell Bepari and his son, 18-year-old Jewel Bepari, both residents of the Chanpara settlement. During the search, law enforcement officers recovered two improvised firearms—locally known as pipeguns—alongside a selection of sharp bladed weapons, including two large meat cleavers (chapati) and a traditional curved sword (ramda).

Confirming the operation, Officer-in-Charge of Rupganj Police Station, A.H.M. Salauddin, stated that prompt police intervention prevented potential violence in the neighbourhood. Authorities have formally registered a case against the father and son under the relevant sections of the Arms Act. Following the completion of preliminary interrogations and formal booking procedures, both accused individuals were produced before the Narayanganj District Court on Thursday for further legal proceedings.

The Chanpara Rehabilitation Centre area, a densely populated settlement situated along the Shitalakshya River, has frequently featured in regional law enforcement reports due to sporadic clashes involving local factions and illicit arms trade. Local residents have repeatedly voiced concerns over the presence of illegal weapons and youth involvement in organised crime. Police officials reaffirmed that security patrols across Rupganj remain heightened to tackle criminal network activities and ensure public safety.
