Hamza Choudhury: Bangladesh Surpasses England in Warmth and Hospitality

National team midfielder Hamza Choudhury, currently back in England after the international break, is awaiting the start of the new season with Leicester City. In the meantime, he spoke warmly about Bangladesh during an interview with the club’s official app, sharing how the love and hospitality he received in the country made a lasting impact on him.

“In terms of football, Bangladesh is still far behind,” Hamza said, “but in love and warmth, it is far ahead. A large part of my heart still belongs to Bangladesh.”

Having become one of the most recognisable faces in Bangladeshi sport today, Hamza represents a beacon of new hope for the country’s football scene. His influence extends far beyond the pitch—his presence has energised fans and inspired a new generation. During his visits to represent the national team, the Leicester City midfielder was often met with overwhelming affection and warm welcomes from the public.

Reflecting on his first visit to Bangladesh, Hamza recounted:

“I went to my ancestral village during that time. It was a completely rural area, and a large part of my childhood is connected to that place.”

He was particularly touched by the hospitality shown by the locals:

“The reception I received is difficult to put into words. Even my teammates often talk about it. That level of love never feels ordinary.”

While acknowledging the gulf in football standards between Bangladesh and England, Hamza believes that in terms of sincerity and heartfelt appreciation, Bangladesh shines brightly.

“In the UK, we do get a lot of attention as players, but the kind of heartfelt connection you feel in Bangladesh is truly unique. It’s incomparable.”

Despite residing in England, Hamza affirmed his emotional bond with Bangladesh remains deep and genuine:

“Some may think I’m just being sentimental, but truly, a large part of my heart is still in Bangladesh. People only come to you with love and positivity—it’s an incredible feeling.”
