Reflecting on his remarkable longevity and enduring passion for the sport, Tahir credited his young son as his primary source of motivation to keep competing at the highest level.

This performance marks Tahir’s sixth five-wicket haul in recognised T20 cricket, elevating him to second place on the list of most five-wicket hauls in the shortest format of the game. Namibia’s David Wiese leads the global tally with seven five-wicket hauls, while five elite bowlers—Shakib Al Hasan, Rashid Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Lasith Malinga, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar—jointly occupy third position with five each.

The veteran leg-spinner also bolstered his standing among the all-time leading wicket-takers in Twenty20 history. Tahir’s career T20 tally now stands at 589 wickets, placing him fourth on the global all-time chart. He trails only Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan (736 wickets), Trinidadian mystery spinner Sunil Narine (657 wickets), and former West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo (631 wickets).

Of his 589 T20 wickets, Tahir has enjoyed his richest vein of success in the CPL, where he has bagged 142 wickets to date. He has already taken 12 wickets in the current CPL campaign whilst leading Guyana from the front.

Tahir last represented South Africa over seven years ago, capping off an international career that spanned 20 Test matches, 107 One Day Internationals, and 38 Twenty20 Internationals for the Proteas. His ongoing success across global franchise leagues remains a testament to his fitness, enthusiasm, and skill.
