Two Sentenced to Life, Six to 10 Years in Cumilla Murder Case

In a verdict delivered on Tuesday, a Cumilla court sentenced two individuals to life imprisonment and six others to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment in connection with a 2009 murder case in Chauddagram upazila.

The judgment was handed down by Judge Sabbir Mahmud Chowdhury of the Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-4. The ruling was confirmed by Additional Public Prosecutor Advocate Md Iftekhar Hossain.

  • Incident Date: 16 May 2009
  • Victim: Yusup Bhuiyan Tipu, a shoe trader
  • Location: Tipu was attacked outside his home around 2:00 AM. A group of robbers, who had been lying in wait, shot him before fleeing the scene.
  • Aftermath: Locals rushed Tipu to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Following the murder, Tipu’s father, Md Ali, filed a case with Chauddagram Police Station against unidentified assailants. During the subsequent investigation, the suspects were identified and several arrests were made.
