Launch operations on ten internal routes in Bhola district have been suspended today due to adverse weather conditions, following the hoisting of Cautionary Signal No. 3 at four maritime ports and Signal No. 1 at the river port.
The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) issued the suspension directive as a precautionary measure to safeguard lives and property.

“Launch services on these routes will remain suspended until further notice due to the current weather warnings,” said Riad Hossen, Assistant Director of Bhola River Port (BIWTA).
However, major long-distance routes such as Bhola–Dhaka and Bhola–Barishal remain operational under close monitoring.
Passenger Disruption and Local Impact
The suspension has severely disrupted travel plans, forcing many passengers to abandon their journeys and return home.
In addition, vehicular movement has also been affected due to flooding at Ilisha Ferry Ghat, which is now submerged following rising water levels in the region’s rivers.
Weather Conditions
According to the Bhola Meteorological Department, the district has experienced 43 millimetres of rainfall in the past 24 hours, with continued rain forecasted.
Authorities are monitoring the situation closely and will resume services as soon as conditions permit safe navigation.
