The arrested individual served as the president of the Savar Sadar Union unit of the Chhatra League. He is the son of Mohammad Ali and a resident of the Chapain Taltala area in Ward 3 of Savar Sadar Union. Local authorities noted that Rana had leveraged his political affiliation over an extended period to exert influence, intimidate local residents, and orchestrate violent disruptions across the sub-district.

According to police sources, Rana is named as a primary accused in several cases filed in connection with fatalities and violence during the recent student-led anti-discrimination movement. Investigations suggest his direct and indirect involvement in orchestrating attacks on protesters. Beyond physical violence, intelligence reports indicate that he actively used his political standing and social media platforms to coordinate group activities, issue threats, and maintain an influential online presence.

Investigating officers revealed that Rana’s name emerged repeatedly during the interrogation of several suspects recently caught red-handed during acts of sabotage. Their statements pointed to Rana as a key coordinator behind the unrest. Following a thorough verification of his involvement, law enforcement authorities filed an additional case against him under the Anti-Terrorism Act and placed him under strict intelligence surveillance, ultimately leading to his location and arrest in Dhamrai.

Confirming the arrest, Officer-in-Charge of Savar Model Police Station, Saiful Alam, stated that preliminary interrogations have yielded critical intelligence regarding Rana’s involvement in organised violence. Police plan to present him before the court to seek a formal remand order for further questioning. Investigators aim to use the remand period to uncover his accomplices, identify financial backers, and trace the political patrons supporting subversive activities in the region.
