A teacher at N Akand Kamil Madrasa in Netrokona has been permanently removed from the institution following allegations of inappropriate conduct involving a female student. The matter came to light after CCTV footage from the madrasa circulated, according to the institution’s authorities.
The teacher, identified as Md Ehsanul Haque, was initially barred from entering the madrasa premises after officials reviewed the footage. He later submitted his resignation, which was accepted at an emergency meeting before the authorities decided to permanently release him from his post.
According to madrasa Principal Muhammad Abdul Baten, the incident first came under scrutiny on 20 August while a meeting of teachers was taking place. During the meeting, teachers noticed on a CCTV monitor that Ehsanul Haque was inside a room with a woman wearing a burqa.
The scene raised concerns among several teachers, who subsequently reviewed the relevant CCTV footage. Ehsanul Haque was then questioned about what had been seen. The principal said that after being shown the footage, the teacher admitted to the incident and apologised to his colleagues.
The principal said he personally reviewed the video footage on 26 August. Following this, the teacher was declared unwelcome at the madrasa. The lock on the room used by him was changed, and he was prohibited from entering the campus.
On 1 September, Ehsanul Haque submitted his resignation to the madrasa authorities. The resignation was accepted at an emergency meeting, where a decision was also taken to permanently remove him from the institution.
The madrasa authorities said they had formally informed the institution’s governing body and the district administration about the matter. However, they said the identity of the alleged victim had not yet been established with certainty. No written complaint had also been submitted by the student or her representatives, according to the authorities.
The circumstances surrounding the woman seen in the footage have therefore not been fully established publicly. While the madrasa has taken administrative action against the teacher, officials have indicated that a formal investigation is necessary to determine the facts and establish whether any offence took place.
Netrokona Additional District Magistrate (Education and ICT) Moon Moon Jahan Liza said removing the teacher from his job alone would not be sufficient. She said an investigation committee would be formed and appropriate action would be considered based on its findings.
She also stressed the need to bring the teacher involved in the incident under the law, subject to the findings of the investigation.
The episode has raised questions about safeguarding students and maintaining appropriate professional boundaries within educational institutions. It has also highlighted the importance of handling CCTV footage and allegations involving students carefully, particularly where the identity and privacy of an alleged victim may be at stake.
Authorities are expected to establish the circumstances through an investigation before any further legal action is taken. Until that process is completed, details about the alleged incident and the identity of the woman seen in the footage remain subject to verification.
