In a major law enforcement drive across the capital, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have arrested 465 suspects during a comprehensive 24-hour operation targeting urban crime and illicit drug trafficking. Officers lodged 45 formal cases against the detainee group for various criminal activities and narcotics offences, according to an official statement issued on Wednesday by the DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division.
The extensive sweep formed part of routine security drives aimed at curbing street crime, apprehending warrant-listed offenders, and dismantling local drug distribution networks across various police jurisdictions.
Breakdowns provided by the DMP indicate that the arrests spanned all eight criminal divisions as well as the Detective Branch (DB):

Mirpur Division: Recorded the highest number of apprehensions with 90 arrests.

Motijheel Division: Accounted for 83 suspects taken into custody.

Tejgaon Division: Detained 80 individuals during targeted raids.

Wari Division: Operations yielded 64 arrests across old city neighbourhoods.

Ramna Division: Apprehended 38 suspects.

Lalbagh Division: Recorded 38 arrests following local patrols.

Uttara Division: Detained 34 individuals in the northern sector.

Gulshan Division: Made 33 arrests across diplomatic and commercial areas.

Detective Branch (DB): Operations conducted by specialist detectives led to 5 arrests.
During the coordinated raids, officers seized an assortment of weapons, illegal substances, and stolen property. Law enforcement personnel recovered a locally made one-shooter gun, a shotgun cartridge, and two knives. Narcotics officers confiscated 50 kilograms of cannabis, 299 Yaba pills, and 23 bottles of foreign liquor.
Investigators also confiscated a pickup truck, 11 mobile phones, a steel rod, five wooden stumps, bottle caps, foil paper, and 4,500 taka in cash, all believed to be connected to criminal acts or drug processing. Police officers successfully rescued one victim held in captivity during the operation.
The DMP confirmed that legal proceedings are underway against all the arrested individuals at their respective local police stations as authorities work to process charges and present the suspects before the courts.
