The assault allegation brought against Bangladesh national team pacer Taskin Ahmed has been formally withdrawn by his childhood friend, Sifatur Rahman Sourav.

The incident surfaced on 28 July, when reports emerged that Sourav had filed a General Diary (GD) with Mirpur Model Police Station, accusing Taskin of physically assaulting and threatening him. The news quickly gained traction on social media, prompting widespread debate and criticism.

However, the situation de-escalated on Wednesday, 30 July, when Sourav withdrew the complaint following a mutual family-mediated resolution.

Official Remarks and Allegations

Sajjadur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mirpur Model Police Station, stated:

“On Sunday night (27 July), Taskin allegedly called Sifatur in front of the Sony Cinema Hall, where he punched him and issued threats. Police were conducting an investigation based on the complaint.

Taskin’s Response on Social Media

From the onset, Taskin denied all allegations. In a statement posted on his verified Facebook page, he clarified:

“This is a baseless rumour. There was a dispute involving another friend who used my name. I had no conflict with Sourav. I request everyone not to be misled by rumours. This situation is deeply embarrassing for me, my family, and my friends.”

Closure Through Mutual Understanding

The case has now come to a close following a personal understanding between both parties and their families. With the complaint withdrawn, no further legal proceedings are expected.

The incident, though brief, stirred concern among fans and the cricketing community. Taskin remains one of the most recognised figures in Bangladesh cricket, and the resolution of this matter will likely bring relief to his supporters and teammates alike.
