Taka Stabilises Against Key Currencies as Remittance Inflows Ease Pressure

Bangladesh’s domestic currency demonstrated heightened stability against major international trading currencies on Thursday, 24 September 2026, offering welcome respite to importers, commercial enterprises, and foreign trade operators amidst evolving monetary policies.

Interbank trading desks and official commercial bank rates placed the US dollar at 123.15 taka. The shift reflects a gradual settling period following months of heightened exchange rate volatility. Back at the start of July, the greenback was quoted between a floor and ceiling of 122.85 taka before ascending to a peak of 123.82 taka. The subsequent easing to 123.15 taka highlights a temporary rebalancing between supply and demand dynamics across local financial institutions.

This broader currency adjustment follows policy recalibrations executed by Bangladesh Bank to align national exchange rate mechanisms with structural requirements mandated under the International Monetary Fund (IMF) loan facility. Implementing these benchmarks necessitated a controlled depreciation of the taka to reduce artificial valuation gaps. Financial market analysts observe that stringent oversight by the central bank, paired with robust inflow channels for expatriate remittances, has successfully narrowed the margin between official banking rates and the open kerb market.

Foreign Currency Exchange Rate in Taka (BDT)
US Dollar 123.15
Euro 140.14
British Pound 163.01
Canadian Dollar 87.30
Australian Dollar 86.64
Chinese Yuan 18.34
Singapore Dollar 96.18
Indian Rupee 1.28
Malaysian Ringgit 30.24
Saudi Riyal 32.81
Qatari Riyal 33.73
Kuwaiti Dinar 399.39
UAE Dirham 33.60

For an import-reliant economy, managing exchange rate fluctuations remains vital to suppressing imported inflation, particularly across essential commodities, raw industrial materials, and energy shipments. While individual banks and authorised money changers may apply minor operational markups depending on transaction volume and trade type, the current stabilization signal provides businesses with clearer forecasting capacity heading into the final quarter of the year.
