A major police operation is underway at the central headquarters of the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JASAD) in Gulistan, Dhaka, following reports of intense political tension, alleged attacks, and covert meetings. Law enforcement personnel launched the drive on Saturday afternoon, surrounding the premises and detaining dozens of individuals present inside the building.

The crackdown began at approximately 3:00 pm when police officers moved up to the third floor of the JASAD office. According to Sub-Inspector Nazmul Hossain, who was present at the scene, nearly 400 individuals were inside the office during the raid. Officers immediately initiated a operation to secure the building and take those present into custody for questioning.

According to JASAD’s Office Secretary, Sajjad Hossain, the party had convened a central representative meeting featuring roughly 350 leaders and activists arriving from across the country. Hossain stated that the gathering was disrupted at around 2:30 pm when activists associated with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its youth wing, the Juba Dal, forcefully entered the premises and mounted an attack. The party members subsequently found themselves trapped inside the facility as tension escalated rapidly in the surrounding Gulistan area.

In contrast, BNP and Juba Dal figures offered a different account of the afternoon’s events. Robiul Islam Nayan, the Member Secretary of Dhaka South Juba Dal, was seen entering the facility and claiming that members of the recently banned Awami League were holding a secret meeting under the guise of the JASAD gathering. Rejecting these allegations, Sajjad Hossain maintained that no Awami League figures were involved and described the accusations as a pretext to justify an unprovoked assault on a peaceful intra-party conference.

The Deputy Commissioner of the Media and Public Relations Division at the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Md. Akhtar Hossain, confirmed the police intervention, noting that reports of “Joy Bangla” slogans being chanted outside the venue prompted immediate security action. He added that between 30 and 40 individuals had already been brought to Paltan Police Station for questioning, while law enforcement officials continue to review the situation before making further formal decisions regarding arrests or charges.
