Taka Holds Firm as Central Bank Releases Exchange Rates

The Central Bank of Bangladesh has published the official foreign exchange rates for Saturday, 26 September 2026, offering clear guidance for commercial institutions, traders, and individual remitters navigating international financial transactions.

According to the latest figures released by Bangladesh Bank, the domestic currency maintains a steady footing against major international currencies, reflecting ongoing liquidity management efforts and current market supply-demand dynamics within the country’s banking sector.

The US Dollar—the primary benchmark currency for Bangladesh’s international trade and balance-of-payments settlements—is listed at a buying rate of 123.15 Taka, whilst commercial banks are selling greenbacks at 123.22 Taka. The tight spread between the buying and selling rates underscores a period of relative stability in interbank dollar liquidity.

Among European currencies, the British Pound Sterling (GBP) continues to command the highest value in the local foreign exchange market, trading with a purchase price of 163.01 Taka and a selling rate of 163.24 Taka. Meanwhile, the Euro (EUR) stands at 140.14 Taka for purchases and 140.30 Taka for sales.

Regional currencies vital for trade, inbound tourism, and medical travel also showed consistent pricing. The Indian Rupee (INR) remains pegged evenly at 1.29 Taka for both buying and selling transactions. The Chinese Yuan (CNY), increasingly significant in bilateral trade financing, is cited at 18.35 Taka for buying and 18.37 Taka for selling. The Japanese Yen (JPY) trades at 0.78 Taka across both buy and sell counters.

In Asia-Pacific trading corridors, the Singapore Dollar (SGD) holds at 96.19 Taka (buying) and 96.30 Taka (selling), whilst the Australian Dollar (AUD) stands at 86.65 Taka buying and 86.79 Taka selling.

Financial analysts note that these official indicative rates play a pivotal role in regulating cross-border remittances, import opening charges, and foreign travel allowances managed by authorised financial institutions across the country.
