United States President Donald Trump has officially confirmed his participation in the 47th ASEAN Summit, scheduled for October this year, according to Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
Speaking before Malaysia’s Parliament on Thursday, Prime Minister Anwar stated:
“I would like to inform the Honourable Members that at 6:50 am (2250 GMT) today, I had the opportunity to speak with the President of the United States, Donald Trump. He confirmed that he will be attending the 47th ASEAN Summit in October.”
This confirmation comes amid heightened diplomatic and economic engagement between Southeast Asia and the United States.
Additionally, Anwar revealed that a tariff agreement between Malaysia and the United States, which addresses a looming 25 percent levy, is set to be formally announced on Friday.
