Arsenal have reportedly made no contact with Erling Haaland despite growing speculation that the Manchester City striker could become a transfer target amid uncertainty surrounding the club’s financial case.
Haaland’s future has attracted renewed attention after Manchester City were found liable for 114 breaches of Premier League financial rules in the case referenced in recent reports. With the potential consequences for City still unresolved, speculation has grown over what could happen to some of the club’s most prominent players. Haaland, one of the most valuable names in City’s squad, has naturally become a central figure in that discussion.
Several reports have suggested that Arsenal and other leading European clubs could be interested in the Norway international. However, the latest information does not indicate that Arsenal have taken concrete steps to pursue him.
According to a report by TeamTalk, Arsenal have not held discussions about Haaland. Representatives of the 26-year-old forward have also reportedly said that they have not been contacted by the north London club. The claims of an active approach therefore remain unsupported by any confirmed communication between Arsenal and Haaland’s representatives.
Arsenal are nevertheless considering further additions to their attack as part of their longer-term squad planning. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has indicated that the club are looking for another forward for 2027. Arsenal previously attempted to sign Vinicius Junior and Julian Alvarez during the last summer transfer window, but neither pursuit resulted in a completed deal.
The club’s search for attacking reinforcements does not, however, establish that Haaland is their intended target. A desire to strengthen the forward line can involve several players, while direct contact with a player’s representatives would normally represent a more concrete stage of a potential transfer.
Haaland’s contractual position also makes any possible move particularly complicated. The Norway international signed a new long-term contract with Manchester City in January 2025. His current agreement runs until 2034, leaving him committed to the Premier League club for several more seasons.
Reports have also stated that the contract does not include a relegation- or punishment-related release clause that would automatically allow Haaland to leave if City were to be relegated from the Premier League or face a major sporting sanction. As a result, any punishment imposed on City would not necessarily give the striker an automatic route to another club.
The situation remains dependent on the outcome of the financial case. Although City have been found liable in relation to the 114 charges mentioned in the report, no final punishment has yet been announced. The club have said they intend to appeal the findings, meaning the eventual consequences remain unresolved.
That uncertainty is likely to keep speculation around City’s leading players alive. For Haaland, however, the confirmed position is straightforward: he remains under a long-term contract with Manchester City, while there is currently no confirmed indication of contact between Arsenal and his representatives.
As a result, suggestions of an imminent Arsenal move for Haaland should be treated as transfer speculation rather than evidence of an active negotiation. The forward’s contractual commitment to City and the unresolved financial proceedings remain key factors in any discussion about his future.
