Officer-in-Charge Ashfaq Rageeb Hasan of the Dhaka District DB (South) confirmed the arrest and recovery in an official press statement issued on Monday afternoon.

Acting on precise tip-offs regarding illicit synthetic drug trafficking in the area, a specialized DB unit conducted the sweep during the early hours of Monday, 28 September. Detectives raided the Shubhaddya Paschimpara Shantinagar three-way intersection under the jurisdiction of South Keraniganj Police Station. Upon spotting the police presence, the suspect attempted to flee the scene but was swiftly surrounded and detained. A body search conducted in the presence of witnesses led to the seizure of 200 contraband Yaba pills concealed on his person.

During preliminary custodial interrogation, Rinku admitted that he was an established narcotics dealer who had been operating across the region for a considerable period. According to police statements, he procured synthetic methamphetamine pills from wholesale supply syndicates operating near border zones and subsequently distributed them across various neighbourhoods in Keraniganj—including Hasnabad and Shubhaddya—catering to local pushers, street-level vendors, and individual consumers.

Detectives have registered a formal case against the suspect at South Keraniganj Police Station under Section 36(1), Table 10(a) of the Narcotics Control Act 2018. Rinku has been produced before the Dhaka Magistrate’s Court, where law enforcement officials submitted a formal police remand application seeking further custodial interrogation. Detectives aim to extract critical intelligence regarding his upstream suppliers, financial handlers, and network associates to dismantle the broader syndicate. Senior police officials reiterated that targeted anti-narcotics operations across Dhaka’s suburban fringes will continue unabated.
