The detainees have been identified as 54-year-old Abdur Rahim, a Union Parishad member representing Ward No. 6 and a local Awami League leader, and 30-year-old Shaheb Ali, a leader of the local Jubo League unit. Acting on specific intelligence, detectives raided the premises, apprehending both individuals on-site and seizing various electronic calling devices and networking equipment used for unauthorised telecommunication routing.

Confirming the arrest and seizure, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jhenaidah DB Police, Shariful Islam, stated that the seized digital gear would be dispatched to the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) for technical evaluation and forensic inspection. He added that formal legal action would be initiated against the suspects following official technical reports and expert assessments from the regulatory authority.

Illegal VoIP operations bypass official telecommunication gateways, causing substantial loss of revenue to the national exchequer whilst bypassing government monitoring channels. Such unlicensed setups allow international incoming calls to be routed locally using digital exchange equipment and unregistered SIM cards, disguising international traffic as local domestic calls.

Border districts such as Jhenaidah have previously witnessed clandestine telecommunication setups due to their geographic location and connectivity infrastructure. Law enforcement agencies continue to monitor technical activities in the region to dismantle illicit networks that undermine state revenue and compromise telecommunication security. Authorities confirmed that surveillance across the district remains heightened to identify similar unauthorised operations.
