In a significant move towards modernising its domestic cricket administration, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has introduced a formal draft system to allocate coaching and support personnel across teams. Initiated under the leadership of BCB President Tamim Iqbal, the inaugural Management Draft was conducted at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium press conference room in Mirpur. The event was primarily organised to assemble full coaching panels for the six participating franchises in the newly rebranded domestic tournament series, the ‘D Three Trophy’.
Through the newly established draft mechanism, each of the six competing sides secured six key management positions: a head coach, two assistant coaches, a physiotherapist, a trainer, and a strength and conditioning specialist. Whilst the appointments have been confirmed, the financial details remain pending. BCB officials are scheduled to convene internal discussions to finalize the remuneration structure, with plans to disburse one-off match fees or event-based remuneration to the appointees for each individual tournament.
This administrative shift aligns with the recent structural reforms spearheaded by Tamim Iqbal. Following his tenure as the head of the ad-hoc committee and his subsequent election as board president, match fees for domestic cricketers were increased in two separate phases. Observers anticipate that a similar upward revision will be applied when setting the financial packages for coaches and support staff.
A notable feature of this year’s draft is the heavy involvement of figures currently attached to the Bangladesh national team setup and high-performance programmes. Fortune recruited Mohammad Salahuddin—head coach of the BCB High Performance unit—as their head coach, alongside national batting coach Mohammad Ashraful and Abdul Karim Jewel as assistant coaches. Seven Rings Cement appointed national pace bowling coach Talha Jubair as their head coach, supported by Under-19 head coach Hannan Sarkar and Humayun Kabir Shahin.
The remaining four franchises also finalized their head coaching roles: Sohel Islam takes charge at ACE Bluestars, Rajin Saleh at ACME, Mizanur Rahman Babul at Citizens Bank, and former national spinner Abdur Razzak at Walton.
The inclusion of active national coaches in domestic franchise roles has raised practical concerns regarding potential schedule overlaps. Addressing these queries, Tournament Committee Chairman Sirajuddin Mohammad Alamgir assured that contingency plans would be implemented if national duty conflicts with domestic commitments.
