Doctor Expresses Outrage Over Severe Airport Delays in Dhaka

A popular travel content creator and dental surgeon, Dr Orakatul Jannat, has voiced deep frustration over severe mismanagement at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka after being forced to wait nearly three hours for her luggage and a baggage trolley.
Returning to Bangladesh on Thursday, 1 October, following the Umrah pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia, Dr Jannat documented her harrowing ordeal during a Facebook Live stream inside the arrivals terminal. Her aircraft touched down at 8:55 am, yet passengers faced immediate gridlock before even reaching the baggage carousels.
Describing the scene, Dr Jannat explained that passengers had to queue for 30 to 40 minutes simply to secure a luggage trolley. Once a trolley was obtained, an agonizing wait for checked baggage ensued, stretching well past 11:30 am. She remarked that while she had encountered administrative and operational hurdles at the country’s main gateway on previous trips, she had never witnessed such unprecedented chaos.
Broadcasting the overflowing queues of weary travellers, Dr Jannat expressed her distress over the state of public infrastructure. She lamented that arriving at Dhaka’s international airport seems to guarantee endless suffering for incoming passengers. In her emotional livestream, she questioned who could be held accountable for such systemic failure, adding bitterly that being born in the country sometimes felt like an enduring punishment.
Baggage handling delays, trolley shortages, and ground-handling inefficiencies have frequently drawn criticism from inbound passengers, foreign tourists, and Bangladeshi expatriates arriving at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Peak arrival hours regularly overwhelm ground service capacity, leading to severe congestion in the customs and baggage retrieval zones.
Despite the widespread public reaction generated by the video broadcast, airport authorities have not issued any official statement or clarification regarding the operational breakdown experienced by passengers on Thursday morning.
