Man Arrested With Yaba Pills Worth 180,000 Taka in Shibaloy

Police in Shibaloy, Manikganj, have arrested a 27-year-old man after seizing 600 Yaba tablets during a targeted anti-narcotics operation along the busy Dhaka-Aricha highway.
Acting on specific intelligence, a team from Shibaloy Police Station conducted a raid on Wednesday afternoon, 30 September, at around 5:45 pm. The operation took place directly in front of Madhumati CNG and LPG Limited in the Kolagaria area of the upazila. Police officers intercepted Kawsar Hossain, a resident of Chhotow Ayat Kha village under Pirgachha upazila in Rangpur district, and son of Akbor Hossain. Upon searching the suspect, law enforcement personnel recovered the contraband concealed on his person.
According to official estimates provided by the police, the seized Yaba tablets weighed approximately 60 grams, carrying an estimated illicit street value of 180,000 taka.
The Dhaka-Aricha highway serves as a vital national artery connecting Bangladesh’s capital to the south-western districts. Over the years, law enforcement agencies have maintained vigilant oversight along this transit corridor, as narcotics syndicates frequently attempt to exploit long-distance transport networks to smuggle illicit substances like Yaba, methamphetamine, and hemp into major urban centres. Traffickers often recruit couriers from distant districts to carry contraband in small consignments to evade detection at primary highway checkpoints.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shibaloy Police Station, Md Aminul Islam, confirmed the arrest and confirmed that a case has been formally registered against the suspect under the relevant sections of the Narcotics Control Act, 2018. Following his detention and the completion of initial interrogation, legal procedures were set in motion to produce him before the district court for judicial remand.
The police official emphasised that local law enforcement maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy regarding drug trafficking, illegal possession, and distribution networks. He added that routine patrols, intelligence-led raids, and surprise checks along major transit routes across the upazila will continue unabated to dismantle local supply lines and curb the drug trade effectively.
