Youth Leader Attacked After Being Lured to Mahakhali

A Jubo Dal leader was allegedly attacked with sharp weapons after being called to a location in Dhaka’s Mahakhali by phone on Thursday night.

The victim, identified as 33-year-old Talha Rahman, is the senior joint convener of the Jubo Dal’s Ward 20 unit in Mahakhali. He is the son of Hafizur Rahman of Rasulbagh in the Mahakhali area.

According to his family, Talha received a telephone call at around 9.45pm on Thursday (1 October) asking him to come to a particular location in Mahakhali. He subsequently went to a lane between SA Paribahan and the ABM filling station in the Mahakhali area under Tejgaon Industrial Area police station.

Talha’s younger brother, Md Muammar Rahman, said a group of people were allegedly waiting there before Talha arrived. As soon as he reached the spot, they attacked him with sharp weapons, repeatedly striking him and leaving him seriously injured.

The attackers allegedly fled the area after leaving Talha bleeding at the scene. His relatives later received information about the incident and went to the location, where they found and rescued him.

Talha was initially taken to Kurmitola General Hospital for treatment. As his condition deteriorated, he was transferred to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital at around 12.15am for further treatment.

Following medical treatment, Talha was taken back home, where he is currently recovering under the care of his family, according to relatives.

The circumstances surrounding the attack remain unclear. His family has not been able to establish who carried out the assault or why Talha was summoned to the location before being attacked. They have informed the relevant law enforcement authorities about the incident.

The allegation that Talha was specifically called to the area before the assault may be an important aspect in determining how the incident unfolded. However, it has not been independently established whether the attack was pre-planned or what motivated it.

No details have been provided about any arrests or formal findings by law enforcement in connection with the incident. The identities of those responsible, their motive and the circumstances leading up to the attack will need to be established through investigation.

The incident has left questions about the events that preceded the assault, particularly the phone call that brought Talha to the lane. His family is seeking clarity over the attack and the people involved.
