Armed Gang Robs 25 Bus Passengers at Knifepoint in Narayanganj

In the early hours of Saturday, an armed gang staged a daring robbery aboard an inter-district passenger bus on the Dhaka-Narayanganj Link Road, stripping at least 25 passengers of their cash and mobile phones at knifepoint.

The incident unfolded at approximately 3:00 am in the Bhuigarh Bus Stand area under the jurisdiction of the Fatullah Model Police Station. The target was a Sifat Paribahan service (registration Dhaka Metro-BA-13-2444), which had departed from Jamalpur around 10:00 pm on Friday night carrying roughly 30 to 35 passengers bound for Narayanganj.

According to victim accounts, the journey had proceeded without incident until the vehicle dropped off several passengers in the Signboard area. As the bus slowed down to disembark another passenger at Bhuigarh, a five-member gang brandishing sharp weapons boarded the vehicle by force.

Once inside, the assailants held a large knife to the bus driver’s chest, taking control of the vehicle and threatening the remaining 25 male and female passengers with immediate violence. Operating under the threat of physical harm, the criminals systematically searched the occupants, seizing cash, mobile handsets, and personal valuables before making a swift escape into the night.

Following the ordeal, the driver navigated the bus to the Sifat Paribahan ticket counter near the Narayanganj Court area at approximately 3:30 am. Biplob, an employee at the counter, confirmed that panicked passengers recounted the harrowing experience immediately upon arrival.

Fatullah Model Police Station Sub-Inspector Milon Fakir stated that police patrols were active nearby at the time of the robbery. He noted that law enforcement officers were informed only after the perpetrators had fled the scene, explaining that no alarms or distress calls were raised during the attack. Police assessments revealed that the victims were severely panicked, which prevented them from offering resistance or raising an immediate alert.

Highway robbery along key transit arteries connecting Dhaka with outlying districts remains a recurring security concern, particularly during late-night and early-morning hours when traffic thins out. Police have initiated an investigation to trace the culprits and recover the looted property.
