Jubodal, the youth wing of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has expelled a local leader in Gopalpur, Tangail, following allegations of his involvement in narcotics trading and anti-organisational conduct.
The expelled official, Selim Hossain, served as the general secretary of Jubodal’s Ward 2 unit in Simlapara under Hemnagar Union. His expulsion was confirmed through an official press statement jointly signed by Mostafizur Rahman Josim, Senior Joint Convener of Gopalpur Sub-district Jubodal, and Badiuzzaman Rana, the Member Secretary.
According to the official notice, Selim Hossain has been stripped of his primary membership and removed from all organisational posts. Party leadership explicitly instructed leaders and activists at all levels to sever all organizational ties with him immediately.
The decision followed an incident on Saturday (3 October) morning in Simlapara village. Local residents apprehended a 21-year-old youth named Shorif, a resident of nearby Uddampur village, carrying 20 Yaba tablets. Residents subsequently handed Shorif over to the police.
Villagers claimed that Shorif had visited Selim Hossain’s residence in Simlapara specifically to purchase the illegal methamphetamine pills. Sensing suspicious activity, local residents intercepted Shorif outside the property before contacting law enforcement.
Following his detention, Shorif claimed to police and witnesses that he had bought the 20 Yaba tablets directly from Selim Hossain for 5,000 Taka. He further alleged that this was not an isolated transaction, stating he had purchased narcotics from the politician on three previous occasions.
Selim Hossain strongly denied all allegations. In a video message released on Facebook, he claimed the incident was a staged political conspiracy intended to defame him. He asserted that adversaries had purchased the drugs themselves to frame him, describing himself as an innocent individual.
Local police confirmed that legal proceedings under the Narcotics Control Act are underway against Shorif. Officers stated that they are investigating the suspect’s statements and probing Selim Hossain’s potential connection to regional drug distribution networks.
