Gas supplies will be suspended for 10 hours in several areas of Dhaka on Thursday due to urgent repair work on a gas pipeline, according to Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution PLC.
The disruption will remain in effect from 10am to 8pm on 8 October, affecting residential, commercial and compressed natural gas (CNG) customers in the designated areas. Residents and businesses that rely on piped gas for cooking and other activities are expected to face temporary inconvenience during the maintenance period.
Titas Gas announced the planned interruption in a notice issued on Wednesday morning. The company said the shutdown was necessary to carry out urgent repairs to the gas pipeline.
The affected areas include Agargaon, the western parts of Taltala, Shewrapara and Kazipara, the western part of Mirpur-10, Mirpur-1, Paikpara, Kallyanpur, Shyamoli, Mirpur 60 Feet and Pirerbag.
The section on the right-hand side of the road from Kallyanpur towards Mirpur-1 will also remain without gas during the specified period.
Titas Gas has warned that customers in areas adjacent to the locations covered by the shutdown may also experience low gas pressure while the repair work is under way. As a result, the impact may be felt beyond the areas where the supply is formally suspended.
The 10-hour interruption could affect households preparing meals, restaurants and other commercial establishments that depend on natural gas. CNG customers in the affected areas may also need to make alternative arrangements during the shutdown period.
Planned maintenance and emergency repair work are carried out to address problems in gas distribution infrastructure and maintain the reliability of the network. However, temporary interruptions can cause considerable inconvenience, particularly in densely populated parts of the capital where large numbers of households and businesses depend on piped gas every day.
Titas Gas has urged customers in the affected areas to take the scheduled interruption into account and make necessary preparations in advance. The company has expressed regret for the temporary inconvenience caused by the repair work.
Gas supply is expected to resume after the maintenance period, although customers in nearby areas may continue to experience reduced pressure for some time depending on the condition of the network and the progress of the repair work.
