Anwar Hossain, son of the late Momtaz Uddin from Balurchar village in Hargaj union, has been a prominent political figure in the region for several years. He held the position of senior vice-president within the Saturia Upazila Awami League unit and maintained strong organizational ties throughout the district. In the local body elections held in 2021, he secured the chairman post for Hargaj Union Parishad after contesting under the Awami League’s boat symbol, subsequently managing local government affairs until recent political transformations reshaped the administration.

Police officials revealed that the targeted operation was launched based on specific allegations and pending complaints against the former local representative. Following nationwide political changes and the subsequent ban placed on all political activities of the Awami League, security agencies across Manikganj district have maintained heightened vigil. Special drives and intelligence-led operations have been instituted across various upazilas to track down individuals facing charges related to political violence, financial corruption, and unlawful activities.

According to local authorities, a specialized team from Saturia Police Station surrounded the Hargaj area after receiving reliable information regarding Anwar Hossain’s whereabouts. He was taken into custody without resistance and transported to the police station for primary interrogation.

Confirming the arrest, Officer-in-Charge of Saturia Police Station Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain stated that police are currently processing the required paperwork and completing all statutory legal formalities. The officer emphasized that the accused will be produced before the Manikganj judicial court within the stipulated timeframe. Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies have reinforced patrolling and intelligence monitoring across Saturia upazila to prevent any potential breach of public order or civil unrest following the arrest.
