The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has solved the murder of 14-year-old Omar Ali, who was abducted, tortured, and choked to death in Rajbari under a 50,000 taka contract killing scheme driven by suspicions of an extramarital affair.
The development was confirmed on Wednesday, 7 October 2026, during a press briefing at the Faridpur PBI office held by Superintendent of Police Md Robiul Islam. Law enforcement personnel arrested the principal suspect, Md Nazrul Islam, 48, son of Nur Islam from Dholjani village under Baliakandi upazila in Rajbari district.
The case dates back to 1 January 2021, when young Omar went missing from his home in Dholjani. After three days of frantic searching by family members, police recovered his lifeless body from a secluded grass field on 4 January 2021. The victim’s father, Ahed Ali, filed a murder case at Baliakandi Police Station the following day against unidentified individuals. Due to the lack of immediate leads, the investigation was subsequently handed over to the PBI Faridpur unit.
Addressing journalists, Superintendent Robiul Islam revealed that Nazrul Islam had evaded capture for years by constantly shifting locations across the country. PBI teams launched five separate operations before successfully apprehending him on the night of 5 October in Ashulia, on the outskirts of Dhaka, using intelligence gathering and modern digital tracking.
During initial interrogations, Nazrul confessed that local individuals suspected the teenager of maintaining illicit relationships with two neighbouring housewives. Driven by revenge and social malice, a local group plotted to eliminate the boy permanently and hired Nazrul and his accomplices for a contract fee of 50,000 taka.
According to the confession, the perpetrators abducted Omar on the night of 1 January 2021 and confined him to a deserted structure. They stripped him of his shirt to bind his hands and feet before locking him in a bathroom, where he was subjected to brutal physical assault. On the night of 2 January, the gang suffocated the teenager to death and dumped his body in a nearby field to conceal evidence before fleeing the area.
Investigators confirmed that five individuals were directly involved in the planning and execution of the contract murder. PBI officials noted that the names of the financiers are being withheld temporarily to protect ongoing operations. Nazrul is being produced before the magistrate court to record his formal confession under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, whilst law enforcement units continue raids to apprehend the remaining fugitives.
