Police in Sirajganj Sadar Upazila have remanded three local figures affiliated with the Awami League and its volunteer wing, the Swechchhasebak League, following targeted overnight raids across several villages.
The suspects were formally remanded in judicial custody by a local court on Wednesday afternoon, 7 October.
Those taken into custody have been identified as Md Abdur Rahman, 58, a local union-level Awami League leader and son of the late Mohir Uddin Sheikh from Brahmanboyra village; Md Atiqur Rahman, 45, an Awami League political activist and son of the late Siraj Mondal from Pachil village; and Md Tuhin Malek, 30, a Swechchhasebak League leader and son of Alauddin from Dattabari village.
Officers conducted simultaneous raids across multiple residential areas in Sadar Upazila on Tuesday night after receiving specific intelligence regarding the suspects’ whereabouts. The three individuals had reportedly been evading law enforcement following earlier criminal proceedings filed against them.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sirajganj Sadar Police Station, Md Rakibul Hasan, confirmed the details of the operation, stating that all three individuals face pending charges under the Explosive Substances Act related to political violence and public disruption.
Following their arrest, police prepared the necessary legal filings and produced the suspects before the Sirajganj magistrate court on Wednesday afternoon. The court denied their bail applications and ordered them to be transferred directly to the district jail under tight police security. Law enforcement officials maintained that routine drives and monitoring in the region will continue to preserve law and order and ensure that fugitives facing serious criminal allegations are brought to justice.
