Background and Context
Since October 2023, following the Hamas attack on Israel that ignited the Gaza war, the Huthi rebels have repeatedly launched missile and drone attacks against Israel, positioning themselves as supporters of the Palestinian cause.
- The Huthis paused their attacks during a two-month ceasefire in Gaza, which ended in March.
- They resumed their assaults after Israel recommenced major military operations in Gaza.
Israeli Retaliatory Actions
In response, Israel has conducted multiple strikes in Yemen, targeting key Huthi-controlled infrastructure:
| Targeted Locations | Description |
| Ports controlled by Huthis | Strikes to disrupt supply and military logistics |
| Airport in Sanaa (rebel-held capital) | Targeted to limit Huthi operational capabilities |
This latest missile interception highlights the expanding regional dimensions of the Gaza conflict, as Iran-backed groups extend their support for Hamas through cross-border attacks, escalating tensions beyond the immediate Israel-Gaza theatre.
