A Bangladeshi national was injured on Saturday morning after being shot by India’s Border Guard Force (BSF) near the Jamalpur border in the Daulatpur sub-district of Kushtia.
The incident took place around 9:30 am roughly 300 yards inside Indian territory, directly opposite the area overseen by the Jamalpur Border Outpost (BOP). In response to the shooting, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel fired back across the frontier to safeguard local Bangladeshi residents and ensure self-defence.
Following the exchange of fire, the BGB significantly stepped up patrols and surveillance along the border zone. Although official press releases confirmed the gunshot injury to the individual’s leg, details regarding his identity, the exact circumstances that led to the shooting, and his current medical condition have not been disclosed by the border agency.
In an official statement, the Commanding Officer of Kushtia Battalion (47 BGB), Lieutenant Colonel Rashed Kamal Roni, emphasized that troops remain on high alert to defend national sovereignty and guarantee the safety of residents living in border communities. He reiterated that BGB personnel are carrying out their duties with maximum vigilance, professionalism, and firmness to manage the situation effectively.
To maintain peace and prevent further escalation along the perimeter, 47 BGB has urged local residents to strictly refrain from any unauthorized border activities or illegal crossings. The situation along the Kushtia border currently remains under tight observation as authorities monitor developments to preserve regional stability.
