A gang of armed and masked robbers raided the residence of a retired senior police official in Mirsarai, Chattogram, holding family members hostage before fleeing with valuables estimated at approximately Tk 17 lakh.
The brazen robbery took place at around 2:30 am on Friday, 9 October, in the Sheikhertaluk neighborhood of Middle Wahedpur village, situated under the Wahedpur Union.
According to the victim, Matin Ullah, a retired Assistant Superintendent of Police (Armed), a group of 10 to 12 masked men broke through the front door of his residence in the early hours of the morning. Brandishing weapons, the intruders swiftly held all family members at gunpoint, preventing any attempt to raise an alarm.
The perpetrators then ransacked the house, breaking open wardrobes and forcibly seizing gold ornaments worn by the female members of the household. The stolen jewellery totalled five bhoris and eight anas (approximately 64 grams).
Beyond gold and cash, the gang methodically targeted electronics, seizing items crucial to the property’s security infrastructure. They dismantled and made off with the central closed-circuit television (CCTV) monitoring device, the home’s Wi-Fi router, a personal desktop computer complete with its central processing unit (CPU) and monitor, two smartphones, one feature phone, and Tk 40,000 in cash. The total value of the looted assets stands at nearly Tk 17 lakh.
Upon receiving news of the crime, Officers from Mirsarai Police Station, led by Officer-in-Charge (OC) Farida Yasmin and Bipul Karmakar, Inspector in Charge of the Nijampur Police Outpost, rushed to inspect the crime scene during the night.
Police confirm that efforts to identify and apprehend the suspects are actively underway, though no formal case had been registered at the time of reporting. Matin Ullah stated that preparations are currently in progress to lodge a formal case with the local police station to initiate a full investigation.
