The celebrated Bangladeshi composer and music director, Ibrar Tipu, is currently in a critical condition in the United States as he continues his long battle against kidney cancer. Having been diagnosed with the disease nearly two years ago, the musician’s health deteriorated significantly following a recent brain surgery, leaving him in what close associates describe as a precarious state between life and death.
After an extended stay in hospital undergoing intensive medical care, Tipu was recently discharged and brought back to his American residence. According to his wife, singer Bindu Kona, the decision to return home was made out of necessity. The family felt that the level of medical attention provided during his prolonged hospitalisation was inadequate, prompting them to manage his ongoing care at home despite the severity of his condition.
The seriousness of Tipu’s illness was brought to public attention by the prominent lyricist Kabir Bakul, who shared a poignant update on social media detailing his friend’s plight. Bakul recounted a recent video conversation facilitated by his wife, Dinat Jahan Munni, marking the first time they had reconnected since the Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations earlier this year. During that holiday visit to New York, Tipu had made a special effort to meet his old friend despite already suffering from failing health. Reflecting on their latest interaction, Bakul noted that despite the physical toll of the illness, the composer retained his characteristic warmth and gentle smile.
